Your insurance
Self-employed engineers need current insurance on file before customers can book them: public liability, and cover for the customer's property while you work on it. Your insurance covers a claim if the policy responds - it does not replace the agreement or, for a limited company, the personal guarantee.
What to upload
- Public liability insurance - the policy schedule (best) or the certificate of insurance. Enter the insurer, policy number, start and expiry dates.
- If your company records vehicle details: It must be at least £2 million any one claim, in your name or your company's (as on the agreement), with a business description that covers vehicle remapping or diagnostics. A certificate is enough to start.
- If your company records vehicle details: Cover for the customer's vehicle while being worked on - the page of the schedule (or an endorsement) showing property in your care, custody or control is covered, or a short email from your broker confirming it. Ordinary public liability often leaves this out. If your schedule already shows it, upload it once and tick both.
- If your company records vehicle details: Driving customers' vehicles - only if you answer Yes to "Will you drive customers' vehicles?": proof of motor trade or road-risks cover that includes driving a customer's vehicle in your custody, and a tick to confirm you hold a full UK licence. If you answer No, you must not drive a customer's car on a job.
- If your company records vehicle details: Your own vehicle - no upload. Tick to confirm it is taxed, has a valid MOT where required, and is insured for the business use you make of it.

Reminders, renewals and "Needs more"
- You and your company get an email 30 days before a policy runs out, and again on the day.
- The Finish setting up list on your dashboard also warns you.
- When something runs out you are taken off the booking page and the app asks you to Upload your insurance to carry on. Upload the renewal and you are straight back in.
- If your company records vehicle details: If your company needs more (for example the schedule page as well as the certificate), you get an email and the note shows on your insurance screen. You can keep taking jobs while you get it.
