    Travel charges and approval

    What the customer pays

    • Inside a local zone or a £0 area: no travel charge.
    • Inside a ring or a charged area: that area's charge is added to their price.
    • If several of your areas cover them, they pay the lowest charge.
    • Your company may also set an area where travel is always free, and a maximum travel charge.

    Approval

Your company approves every travel charge you set. Until then you'll see Charge waiting for approval and an amber Travel charges waiting for approval box:

    • A new charged area isn't offered to customers until it's approved.
    • A raised charge keeps using the old approved amount until the new one is approved.
    • A lowered charge works straight away.
    • Deleting an area and drawing it again means it needs approving again - edit it instead.
    • Charges well above the suggestion may not be approved.

    If a charge is declined

    • A new charged area that's declined is removed from your coverage. If it was an extended ring, the surcharge ring beyond it goes too.
    • A raised charge that's declined goes back to the amount that was approved before.
    • You get an email listing what was changed. Talk to your company if you think the charge is fair.

    What you earn

If you're self-employed, the approved travel charge the customer pays is added to your earnings for that job, on top of your normal cut. Engineers employed by your company don't earn per job.
